FORUM: AUSTRALIAN WOMEN IN FILM
11.30am to 1.00pm Tuesday 3 May 2016 at Palace Cinema Como
A study by Deakin University academics Bronwyn Coate and Deb Verhoeven recently stated “If cinema audiences shrink much further, particularly amongst young adults, then the long term viability of cinema is less than certain”. In the last year however Australian films have engaged more audiences and in particular appealed to more women. Women practitioners on films such as Mad Max: Fury Road and The Dressmaker have led the field with resulting awards and box office success. Our presenters and panellists explore how indi cinemas, Australian filmmakers and distributors are building admissions through community engagement, diversity and successful innovation.
