FORUM: AUSTRALIAN WOMEN IN FILM

11.30am to 1.00pm Tuesday 3 May 2016 at Palace Cinema Como

A study by Deakin University academics Bronwyn Coate and Deb Verhoeven recently stated “If cinema audiences shrink much further, particularly amongst young adults, then the long term viability of cinema is less than certain”. In the last year however Australian films have engaged more audiences and in particular appealed to more women. Women practitioners on films such as Mad Max: Fury Road and The Dressmaker have led the field with resulting awards and box office success. Our presenters and panellists explore how indi cinemas, Australian filmmakers and distributors are building admissions through community engagement, diversity and successful innovation.

12.00pm – 12.30pm Presentation: The Dressmaker – A Case Study, Beatrix Coles (Social Media Strategist and Moderator) Ross Entwistle Limelight Cinemas, William Palmer, Movio
12.30pm – 12.55pm Q & A and Forum Discussion: Convenor: Adrianne Pecotic Panellists Include:  Deb Verhoeven, Professor Deakin Uni, Natalie Miller, Sharmill Films, Sarah Lewis, Palace Cinemas, Sasha Close, Wallis Cinemas , Ross Entwistle Limelight Cinems and William Palmer, Movio.
